California Mastitis Test Reagent (CMT) consists of Teepol (0–5%), Sodium Hydroxide (1.5%) and Bromothymol Blue (0.01%) in distilled water.

Indication

This reagent is used to detect mastitis. The test is based on increased leukocyte count and alkalinity during mastitis. These changes occur because inflammatory exudates mix with milk, increasing basic salts and turning milk alkaline.

Presentation

The reagent is available as 100 ml bottle.

Storage

The reagent should be stored at 2–5 °C.

Safety and Handling

Handle with care as the reagent contains alkaline components. Avoid contact with skin or eyes. Rinse immediately with water if contact occurs.
