The RDVF vaccine is prepared from a live Ranikhet disease virus of high antigenicity and low virulence (lentogenic) known as the F-strain. It is freeze-dried using an emulsion of embryo and allantoic fluids from infected embryonated chicken eggs.

The RDVF vaccine is prepared from live Ranikhet disease virus (F-strain) of high antigenicity and low virulence. The vaccine is produced by freeze-drying an emulsion of embryo and allantoic fluids obtained from infected embryonated chicken eggs.

Indications

This vaccine is used for prophylactic vaccination against Ranikhet Disease in chicks aged 5–7 days.

Reconstitution & Vaccination
  • Each freeze-dried vaccine vial should be reconstituted in 100 ml chilled sterile normal saline.
  • Two drops (0.1 ml) of reconstituted vaccine should be instilled into the nostrils of chicks using a syringe with a blunt needle or narrow pipette.
  • The optimum age for vaccination is 5–7 days.
  • The reconstituted vaccine should be used within 1 hour.
  • Chicks vaccinated with RDV-F should be revaccinated with:
    • RDV–La Sota at 4–5 weeks of age
    • RDV–Komarov at 8 weeks of age
Immunity

The vaccine is expected to confer immunity for about 8–10 weeks.

Presentation

The vaccine is available as 500 doses per vial.

Storage & Keeping Quality

When kept in cold storage, the vaccine is stable for upto 18 months from the date of manufacture.

Handling and Care

Use only sterile equipment. Vaccinate only healthy chicks. Keep the vaccine away from heat and direct sunlight during vaccination.
