The Enterotoxaemia vaccine is prepared from a highly toxigenic strain of Clostridium perfringens type D grown in anaerobic fluid medium, activated by trypsin and rendered a-toxic by formalin and precipitated by addition of alum.
This vaccine is used for active immunization of lambs and sheep against enterotoxaemia. Pregnant ewes can also be safely vaccinated and the second dose is given 3 weeks before lambing. Lambs above 3 months of age can be safely vaccinated.
The immunity is usually established in about 10 days and is expected to last for about 6 months.
The vaccine is available in a minimum pack of 50 doses.
The vaccine transported at room temperature should be used within 21 days from the date of dispatch. The vaccine transported and stored under refrigerated condition (2–8°C) keeps well for one year from the date of manufacture.
